The First Week Is a Lot
We brought our rescue dog home on a rainy Tuesday. She spent the first two days hiding behind the couch, only coming out to eat. By day four, she was following me everywhere, including the bathroom. I was exhausted, covered in fur, and weirdly emotional.

One night, while she snoozed on my feet, I was scrolling on my phone and found a shop that puts funny pet phrases on pillow covers. I wasn't looking for anything specific. I just wanted something that felt like us.
Picking the Quote
I typed in a few dog love quotes I'd seen online. Some were too cheesy. Some were too long. I finally picked one that said something like "My rescue dog rescued me right back." It wasn't fancy. It just felt true.
The sizing chart confused me for a second. I measured our old couch pillow twice because I was worried it would look tiny. I almost ordered the wrong color, too. But I went with a soft gray, mostly because it hides dog hair.

When It Showed Up
The package arrived on a Saturday. I opened it before my coffee was even done. The pillow cover was cozier than I expected, and the lettering was clean without looking like a corporate slogan.
I put it on the couch and sat down. Our dog sniffed it, circled twice, and then rested her chin right on the quote. She stayed there for an hour. I cried a little. Not sad crying. Just the kind where your chest feels full.
What I Keep Thinking About
That adoption story is only a week old, and we're still figuring each other out. But seeing that quote every morning reminds me that we're both learning how to trust. Some days are messy. Some are sweet. This little pillow cover made the sweet ones easier to notice.
